Atresmedia launches AMVIA and enters out-of-home advertising under CNMC restrictions

The division integrates Clear Channel Spain, acquired for €115 million, and plans to invest more than €250 million over five years. For eight years, it must sell its advertising space independently of Atresmedia’s other advertising businesses.

A new division to expand the advertising business

Atresmedia has introduced AMVIA, the division that brings together Clear Channel Spain’s out-of-home advertising assets and operations. The group announced the acquisition in September 2025 and completed it on August 4, 2026, for €115 million, according to information published about the deal. The new unit will operate in spaces such as bus shelters, street furniture, and public transport.

The acquisition adds a network of more than 28,000 advertising sites. Atresmedia aims to diversify its revenue sources beyond television and radio and take part in a segment that grew in Spain in 2025. According to InfoAdex, out-of-home advertising investment reached €460.5 million, up 6.7% from the previous year. These are market figures, not a guarantee that AMVIA will grow at the same rate.

Investment and business targets

Jordi Sáez, AMVIA’s managing director, announced that the company plans to allocate more than €250 million over five years to investments and concession fees related to its operations. The strategy involves modernizing advertising sites, accelerating digitalization, and developing solutions for advertisers and public administrations.

Management estimates that the business could reach annual revenue of close to €100 million and an EBITDA margin of 18%. These are forecasts, not results already achieved. Merca2 reported that AMVIA contributed €12.8 million between August and September, corresponding to its first two months of consolidated activity; that partial period alone cannot confirm how it will perform over a full financial year.

The network includes more than 2,300 digital screens, according to La Razón. Digitalization can offer advertisers more flexible formats and targeting options, although the available sources do not specify which solutions AMVIA will deploy or how it will measure their results.

The competition condition: independent sales

The transaction is subject to a condition imposed by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC): for eight years, AMVIA must market its advertising space independently and autonomously from Atresmedia’s other advertising businesses. The aim is to limit competition risks associated with combining out-of-home advertising space with television or radio inventory.

In practice, this separation constrains joint sales and commercial coordination between divisions. Therefore, although AMVIA is part of the group and may benefit from its corporate and financial backing, it cannot be treated as an interchangeable commercial extension of Atresmedia’s other advertising media during the specified period. The available sources do not specify all the monitoring mechanisms or the detailed scope of each obligation; assessing their specific legal application would require consulting the CNMC’s decision.

Diversification amid mixed results

The transaction comes during a period in which Atresmedia’s revenue and profits have moved in different directions. Merca2, reporting on the accounts filed with the CNMV, said that in the first nine months of 2026 the group’s revenue rose 4% to €724.3 million, while net profit fell 15.2% to €53.8 million.

The addition of out-of-home advertising expands the group’s business, but does not remove uncertainty about its performance. AMVIA’s revenue and margin targets are management estimates, and its progress will need to be assessed alongside planned investment, market trends, and the sales restrictions set by the CNMC.
