SearchJunts’ secretary-general attributes the decision to failures to honor agreements with the PSOE. The party also says it will not join the bloc supporting a potential PP and Vox government.
Junts secretary-general Jordi Turull said in an interview on TV3 on October 7 that his party would not support Pedro Sánchez’s investiture again after the general election on November 29, 2026. Turull described that possibility as “impossible” and justified the position on the grounds of what he considers failures to honor commitments agreed with the PSOE.
The party leader acknowledged that the amnesty law had been passed and said Junts had fulfilled its part of the investiture agreement. In his view, however, other commitments were delayed or did not materialize, and the PSOE made excuses for not carrying them out. These statements describe Turull’s assessment of the agreement; news coverage has not independently verified them.
Turull added that Junts had asked Sánchez to face a confidence vote and that, before the election was called, it proposed that the PSOE find another candidate for the presidency. According to his account, the Socialist Party rejected this latter proposal. He also criticized the government’s handling of housing and questioned its intention to process measures through alternative parliamentary routes.
The announcement is part of the electoral strategy that media outlets attribute to Junts: emphasizing that it will serve neither the PSOE nor the PP. The party’s spokesperson in Congress, Míriam Nogueras, also rejected supporting a potential PP and Vox government, according to published reports. Thus, Turull’s stated position on Sánchez does not amount to announced support for those parties’ alternative.
The statement sets out Junts’ public message ahead of November 29, but does not, on its own, determine the election result or the decisions the party might make in any subsequent negotiations. The refusal to back Sánchez’s investiture and the reasons given reflect the position Turull announced on behalf of the party.
