SearchADEFA reported that 39,747 vehicles were manufactured in Argentina in September. Exports grew 6.8% year over year and reached their highest monthly volume of the year, while wholesale sales to dealerships fell 20.4%.
Argentina’s automotive industry manufactured 39,747 vehicles—passenger cars and light commercial vehicles—in September, 15.6% fewer than in the same month of 2025, according to data from the Association of Automotive Manufacturers (ADEFA). From January to September, production totaled 314,975 units, a year-over-year decline of 16.9%.
The decline in September was more pronounced for passenger cars: 13,227 units were produced, 28.1% fewer than a year earlier. Production of light commercial vehicles totaled 26,520, down 7.7% year over year.
External performance contrasted with production. In September, 28,213 units were exported, 6.8% more than in September 2025 and the highest monthly figure of 2026. That volume was equivalent to 71% of the month’s production, according to ADEFA.
In the first nine months of the year, exports reached 203,072 vehicles, 1.6% above the same period in 2025. Brazil accounted for more than 60% of exports, while Central America and other South American destinations also received Argentine vehicles.
Automakers delivered 43,214 vehicles to dealerships in September. The figure was 20.4% below the level recorded a year earlier. From January to September, wholesale sales totaled 344,589 units, a year-over-year decrease of 24.3%.
These figures refer to sales from automakers to the commercial network, not vehicle registrations or final sales to consumers. The distinction between these indicators matters when interpreting activity: exports increased in September, but production and deliveries to dealerships remained below their 2025 levels.
Rodrigo Pérez Graziano, ADEFA’s president, described the cumulative figures for the first nine months as a challenging scenario and said that the domestic market remained below 2025 levels. He also highlighted the volume exported in September and noted that the challenge for the final quarter was to sustain the signs of recovery seen in some indicators.
His statements reflect the organization’s assessment and expectations, not a guarantee that production will recover. The published data reflect automotive activity in Argentina through September 2026 and, on their own, do not make it possible to anticipate developments in the following months.
